Attention All 767 Feeder Drivers :
As you may or may not know, our current Local Feeder Work Rules were set to expire on July 31st, 2019. These Work Rules & Guidelines have been in place since 2004. Through much negotiating and hard work, we’ve been able to preserve, revise and enhance our Local Work Rules. Some of the improvements include more stability and job security for our members on the Coverage Board, improved language for the Sleeper Teams and mileage turn drivers. We eliminated the Company’s ability to force seniority drivers, in bid positions, from being forced to go on-call to get their weekly guarantee. Going forward each member that bids on a Vacation Coverage Board position will have an opportunity to bid on a guaranteed a start time weekly which will allow drivers the abiity to know their schedule a week in advance. These changes will ensure that the seniority of our members will be protected and preserved for years to come.
For the Sleeper Teams, we were able to get a better definition of the workweek, a timeline for the posting of the Intent List and our Holiday week schedule practice on paper. For mileage turn jobs in the brown network, we cleaned up the language about meal periods, we protected the language for start work and finish work and now we have the ability to discuss mileage jobs with Company.
The Company proposed two options: 1. Get rid of the Cover Board Rules Altogether or 2. Eliminate the pass as an option but continue the on-call. Eliminating the Cover Board Rules and just adopting the practice that most of the other Locals throughout the South do of simply having the senior most on the Coverage Board cover what jobs that are available that week, laying off the rest and calling them back daily in seniority order. No passing, if they called you, you are expected to work at the mercy of the Company and if you didn’t work that opportunity on the first day of the week per the contract you would have to displace two part-timers and you’d go back to the hub for that day. The alternate option proposed by the Company was to keep the current rules and eliminate the ability to pass at all if on-call. We stood firm and presented our own alternative to the Company, which they eventually agreed to, revising the existing Work Rules to fit the needs of our members in 2019 by protecting the seniority rights of each member that bids on the Cover Board as well as securing each member of the Cover Board a guaranteed start and ability to get their weekly guarantee without having to wait for a phone call. Furthermore, we established the On-Call List and clarified rules for when the company can call those drivers that are on the On-Call List; as well as better defining the Extra Work Rules.
Additionally, we were able to get the Company to agree to our implementation plan for these new and improved Work Rules. The details of which are coming soon. Copies of the newly revised Work Rules will soon be available on the website for all Feeder Drivers to review. We want a rapid and smooth transition to our newly revised Work Rules so our Members can begin benefiting from them as soon as possible.
